RAILWAYMEN’S PICNIC
KING EDWARD PARK, STRATFORD.
The North Taranaki railwaymen’s picnic was held at King Edward Park, Stratford, yesterday. About 200 picnickers from New Plymouth and stations en route made the trip by special train and were joined at the park by Stratford railwaymen and their friends. Though the weather was somewhat showery, an enjoyable time was spent. The Stratford band gave fine selections under the baton of Mr. McCaskell. The commitee conducted children’s races and competitions, and saw that the general arrangements ensured a pleasant outing for old and young. Results of competitive events were:— Three-legged race: A. McLean junr and J. Hayward. Ladies’ chain stepping, M. Manning 1, R. Veale 2, J. Hayward 3. Men’s chain stepping, A. Roper 1, Mischefski 2, B. Villiers 3. Ladies’ nail driving, Mrs. Hunter 1, Mrs. Buljot 2, Mrs. Sims 3. Girls, (4 to 6yrs), D. Maitland 1, N. Petherbridge 2. Boys (4 to 6yrs), W. Clarke 1, R. Maitland 2. Girls,' (6 to Byrs), A. Croxson 1, S. Maitland 2. Boys (8 to lOyrs), R. Roper 1, T. Woolhouse 2, N. Bullot 3. Boys (10 to 18yrs), J. Faulkner 1, J. The Hawera railwaymen were to have held a. picnic at Opunake yesterday, but it was postponed owing to the weather.
