MEETING OF COMMITTEE HELD. . The monthly meeting of the Inglewood school committee was held on Wednesday night. . Messrs. A. Grant, (chairman), S. Lovell (secretary), H. S. Drake, S. Wanklyn, jH. Patterson, I. P. Grant, Clarke, and R. Brown (headmaster) were present. The chairman welcomed the new headmaster and hoped his stay at Inglewood would be a happy, one. At all times he could be assured of the co-operation and support of the commitee. Mr. -Grant hoped that during his term as the headmaster - Mr. Brown would see the establishment of a district high school at Inglewood. In reply Mr. Brown hoped the committee’s efforts would be successful in establishing either a district or a junior high school at Inglewood, which in his opinion was the centre of a wide educational district. He had always striven to leave matters a little better than he found them at other schools and ha hoped his efforts would be successful at Inglewood.. 7 It was decided to combine with the Inglewood Athletic Club in holding a children’s sports at the forthcoming athletic meeting subject to a satisfactory programme being arranged. A subcommittee was appointed to wait on the club to arrange a programme. Messrs. I. Grant and H. Patterson were appointed the visiting committee for the ensuing month. The headmaster reported that the roll on February 3 was 141 boys and 110 girls, a decrease of 20 pupils from last term Twenty-four pupils of form II last year left and there were 12 withdrawls from other classes. The number of new pupils, including Standard 7, was 16. The uncertainty in the minds of many pupils and parents as to whether a standard 7 class was to be formed probably accounted for the comparatively small number in the class. The effect of the entrance age regulation was being felt, there being only four pupils enrolled for the first time.' The average attendance was 239. If the school was to maintain its grade a careful watch on the attendance will be necessary and he suggested that the committee take steps to enlighten the parents upon the seriousness of the position. A new teaching appointment was Miss Sinclair as infant The buildings were on the whole in - a good state of repair. Several windows were broken during the holidays.
