KEEN COMPETITION AT AUCKLAND MATTSON’S DEFEAT OF VISITORS. ' ' By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Lart Night Keen competition between visiting riders and A. Mattson, Dominion champion, created interest at Western Springs speedway last evening. In one event Mattson, after being left behind at the etart, defeated two of the overseas men, N. Key and E. Gregory, covering a mile in 78 3-ss. The world’s champion, 'E. Langton (England) defeated W. Phillips (England) in two out of three'special matches. Results are:— Big six championship: N. Key 1, A. Mattson 2; time, lm. 18s. Match for two fastest men: T. Stevenson 1, N. Key 2; time, lm. 18 3-ss. Special matches:—First race: E. Langton 1, W. Phillips 2; time, lm. 17: 4-ss. Second race: W. Phillips 1, E. Langton 2; time, lm. 18 2-ss. Third’ race: E. Langton 1, W. Phillips 2; time lm. 19 2-ss. Open handicap: T. Stevenson (90yds bhd) 1, W. Phillips (90yds bhd) 2; time, lm. 22 4-ss.
