The emergency committee .of the Motueka district tobacco growers is unanimous that,, the extra duties on pipe, bucco,. without-;, a corresponding:: addition on imported manufactured leaf, will have a disastrous effect on the roDacco-grow-ing industry. < It also pointed out. .that cigarettes, manufactured in New Zealand from imported leaf are subject to.no extra auty and no sales tax, thereby encouraging companies . manufacturing cigarettes to use imported leaf, to the ultimate exclusion of the locally grown article. Growers feel that the industry has received a most serious blow.
