MOTOR COLLISION AT OHURA
CYCLIST SUFFERS BROKEN BONES. An accident in which Mr. Charles Flanagan suffered a broken arm and collar bone, occurred on the Heao Valley Road on Wednesday night, when a motor van travelling to Ohura collided with a motor cycle. The van was driven by a young man, Mr. Barry Gill, who was accompanied by his father, Mr. M. J. Gill, both of whom reside at Ohura. The cycle was driven by Mr. James Morrison, with Mr. Charles Flanagan riding pillion. Both vehicles fell about 10 feet over a bank and were caught by a fence. Apart from Mr. Flanagan’s ’injury; the others escaped serious hurt, though they were severely shaken and bruised,' and suffered from shock. Mr. Gill was able to reach a store at Heao about a mile and a-half from the scene of the accident and telephoned to Lilburn’s station, alongside which there is a power board camp.
The camp lorry was taken out and the sufferers conveyed to Mr. Margan’s at Heao, where they were atended by Dr. Turnbull, Ohura, who responded to the call. The late goods train for Taumarunui passed through Heao about 10.30 p.m. and Mr. Flanagan was taken to the Taumarunui hospital
GENERAL ITEMS. (
Ohura’s main street provided an animated appearance on Thursday, when the monthly stock sale was held. The street was lined on both sides with cars which brought in the farmers and their families, whilst a long string of saddle horses, parked on the river road, testified that the settlers from the back country did not mean to be denied their monthly relaxation. Visitors from other parts of Taranaki were delayed through the wet weather softening the gorge road, but they arrived in time for the sale. A big 7-ton caterpillar road grader has just been purchased by the Ohura County Council. The class of grader required for this district is not built in Britain and the council had to go elsewhere to make the purchase.
