COCKATOO DOCKYARD LEASED
ANNOUNCEMENT BY MR. LYONS.
SAVING TO THE COMMONWEALTH.

Rec. 10.5 p.m. Melbourne, Jan. 31. The Cockatoo dockyard at Sydney has been leased to a company known as the Cockatoo Docks and Engineering Company, announced the Prime Minister, Mr. J. A. Lyons, to-day. Mr. Lyons said the terms were very satisfactory and the lease was for 21 years.
For some years past the dockyard has involved the Commonwealth in a very heavy loss. For the last calendar year the loss on the working accounts alone was £70,000.
