MEMORIAL SERVICE HELD

FRANKLEY ROAD RESIDENTS MEET.

At a memorial service for Master Maurice Shepherd, who was accidentally drowned in the Waipa River at Otorohanga, a large number of friends and sympathisers gathered at Frankley Road. Mr. G. Smith conducted the service and was assisted by Mr., W. Harris. Mr. Smith said he took an interest in every scholar of his Sunday school, but Maurice Shepherd had taken a special place in his heart because of his very good conduct, his willingness to do anything and his immediate obedience. For the past 18 months during school holidays he had accompanied the speaker on every motor trip, whether for business or pleasure. Although they had been in Otorohanga for less than 24 hours the two boys had made friends ip the town. They seemed to notice every opportunity of helping others.

In spite of the fact that he was only twelve years old, Maurice Shepherd took a keen interest in spiritual matters, and all the hymns for the evening service were chosen because he loved them. Mr. Harris led the prayers and Bible readings and Mr. Smith sang a solo, “God holds the key to all unknown.” Mrs. Smellie and Mrs. Lukas, Hamilton, 'who have been visiting Mrs. Farnham, Hurworth, have motored to Masterton.
