MEMORIAL SERVICE HELD. At the Opunake Presbyterian Church on Sunday evening a service in memory of the late Rev. T. H. Fletcher was held. The Rev. Mr. Smaill (Patea) conducted the service and traced the life work of Mr. Fletcher in the service of devotion. The organist, Mr. W. D. Richards, played the “Dead March” and suitable hymns were rendered by the choir. The Rev. C. M. Roberts, who has been in charge of the Methodist Church, has notified the committee of managers that he will ask to be relieved of his duties at the next meeting of the Methodist Conference. Mr. Roberts is recovering from an illness and it will be necessary for him to recuperate before again taking up ministerial duties. Last week an additional number of men went into the single men’s camp. The improvements in road access, being, made under the Public Works Department at Arawhata and Kaweora, will be sufficiently advanced next season to enable a further 600 to 200 cows on the land opened up. Visitors were present froni the surrounding districts and from Inglewood and New Plymouth. The hall was packed to overflowing. Music was supplied by Mrs. A. Fabish, with extras by Miss K. Wasley. The following novelty dances were won:— Monte Carlos, Miss May Weir and partner, Miss M. Ashman and Mr. T, Mace; spot waltzes, Miss I. Marsh and partner, Miss J.i Thomason and Mr. J. Drinkwater. Mr. A. Weir was master of ceremonies, and supper was served by a committee of ladies. Mr. and Mrs. C. Weston and family have returned from a motoring holiday. Mr. C. B. Lopdell, a former school master at Kent Road, and Mrs. Lopdell, spent a few days camping at the school grounds during their holidays. Miss 0. Peters has returned from a holiday spent at Kaimata. Mrs'. F. Kemp, Wanganui, spent last week in the district visiting his parents. Mfs. G. Pascoe, New Plymouth, has been the guest of Mrs. J. Bowen, Junction Road. A church service was held in the Korito school on Sunday by the Rev.. R. S. Keenan, Inglewood.
