DOMINION BOWLING CONTEST WELLINGTON IN STRONG POSITION GILBERT AND NAYLOR TWO LIVES. SENSATIONAL PLAY WITNESSED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The fourth and fifth rounds of post section play in the teams’ championship at the New Zealand bowling tournament brought the cream of Dominion bowlers into the arena. Auckland has one with one life only. The teams remaining are Gilbert (Karon), Naylor (Lyall Bay) and Jenkin (Auckland). The weather was perfect. In the fifth round Benefields rink attempted smashing tactics against Walker (Auckland) but did not succeed. It was an even break for the first seven heads, Keys and Macky doing good work for Auckland. Benefield was driving and three heads were killed. Three singles to Walker saw him leading 9—5... ine Wanganui team continued vigorous tactics, but Walker more than gave _ a Roland for an Oliver when the occasion demanded. Half-way through the match Walker had the mastery. He scored singles persistently and won 15—7. The first half of the game was evenly contested between Jenkin and Efford. The latter scored one on the 12th head and that was the end. Jenkin scored four singles and on the last four heads added 2,3, 3,2 to win 23—11. TESTING TIME. The sixth round was the testing time. In the match between Naylor and Ives the Lyall Bay quartette gave a superb display of drawing, and Naylor’s generalship made it hard for Ives to make a big score. Naylor was in front 16—6 on the 10th. Ives scored two singles and Naylor added two. lyes drew a four. On the next two heads Naylor’s rink added 4 and 3 by good drawing, making the score 25—12, which was too good for the Christchurch team. Ives scored two on the 18th, but Naylor drew a beauty on the 19th, leaving Ives 12 down with two heads to go. Ives resigned. Jenkin and Walker made hard work of it. Jenkin went ahead at the start but Walker caught him on the 12th. There were three ties before Jenkin forged ahead with 3,1, 3 to lead 22—18. With one head to go Walker wanted five to win. He succeeded in placing five shots all. round the jack. Truscott drove twice and his second, hitting the head, cracked it up to lie the shot. Walker failed to put the jack out and Jenkin won by 5 to 1. . To-morrow Gilbert (Karori) and Naylor (Lyall Bay), the only two-lifers left, meet at 9 a.m. Jenkin' (Carlton) will meet the loser, and if he wins will still have to beat the other two-lifer twice.
