IF CONFERENCE FAILS
ECONOMIC EXPERTS’ FEARS PLEA MADE TO THE NATIONS REPORT FOR WORLD PARLEY By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Rec. 10.30 p.m. . Geneva, Jan. 19. A plea for economic disarmament is made in the preamble of the experts report which is to be submitted to the world economic conference. The experts express grave fears for . the world s economic, financial and social systems if the conference fails. It is emphasised that world prices have dropped one-third (primary products one half), and that the wheat price is the lowest for 400 years; yet there is the anomaly that in some protected markets the price is five times above normal. Furthermore, some countries’ exports are insufficient to meet the service of foreign debts. The value of world trade in the first half of 1932 was only a third of that for the same period of 1929. There is unanimity that gold is the most suitable medium for economic intercourse, but the statement is qualified by so many provisions that no suggestion of an early return to gold is envisaged..
