PLAYERS FROM NEW PLYMOUTH. ALL PLAYING WITH GOOD FORM. (By “Hoop.”) The New Zealand croquet tournament is now being held at Lower , Hutt under ideal conditions, perfect lawn and weather. The New Plymouth players are all playing well, and thoroughly enjoying themselves. Miss Beal has won the B grade handicap singles. Playing against Mrs. Beard she made a beautiful break and the game ended 26—7. Against Mrs. Heally she had a hard tussle, with in and out play, but won 26 —24. In the semi-finals she played Mrs. Hill and easily won 26—12 and so entered the finals. Mrs. Beal was outclassed in playing against Miss Blockham and the score was 26—13. ; ‘ Handicap Singles. In the first round of the handicap singles Mrs. Tingey won easily from Mrs. Lees 26—11. Playing against Mrs. McGregor Mrs. Tingey had to give 2| bisques. The game was a hard fought one and. was won by Mrs. Tingey 26—23.. Mrs. Clark met Mrs. Caldow in the handicap singles and won the game in 35 minutes with the score 26—0. Captain Hartnell’s Games. Captain Hartnell, playing Mrs. Simpson, was not up to his usual form, and the game was very long drawn out. He eventually won 26—23. He made a perfect against Mrs. Pitcaithly, but then Mrs. Pitcaithly got in and played to 4 back. Captain Hartnell made another break but failed to peg out and Mrs. Pitcaithly made four more hoops before Captain Hartnell ended the game 26-16. S&a* fci
whom Captain Hartnell had to give five - bisques, he made 4 hoops and then failed. His opponent, with 2 bisques, made . 6 hoops and then Captain Hartnell went to rover with red. Handicap Doubles. ? ; In the handicap doubles, Capt. Hartnell and Miss Beal won from Mesdames . ; Bocock and Burd 26—7, then met -the., Rev. Mr. Tye and Mrs. Tiffen. Everything pointed to Capt. Hartnell and < Miss Beal winning when Capt Hartnell missed a very short shot and the game ended in the favour of the Rev. Tye and. Mrs. Tiffen 26-23. . WW® Mesdames Clark and Tingey. in the K first round met Mesdames Hogan and . Dempsey,, giving’ them 2 bisques. The New Plymouth pair won 26—1. In the second round they met the Rev. Mr.. ..• Tye and Mrs. Tiffen. The ‘ Rev. Tye made a break, of 10 hoops,. and lay for his partner, when Mrs. Tingey hit; in and went to penultimate. Then Mrs? Clark got to rover with Mrs. Tiffen still on No. L Mrs. Tiffen hit in and made, three hoops but the game ended 26— When the same pair was playing \ against Mrs. Caldow and Mr. E. Veitch,-:' Veitch went to 3 back but Mrs. hit in and went to penultimate. Mrs. Caldow using their J bisque, set for No. 1 hoop but Mrs. Clark hit in and •went from No. •1 to the peg. Veitch failed to - hit in and Mrs. Tingey finished the game 26—9. Playing in the semi-finals Mesdames . Clark and Tingey met Mrs. Nottleand Mrs. Gilbert.
