MR. A. E. STONE, TAWHITI, LEAVES.

SERVICES TO SCHOOL RECOGNISED

There was a good attendance at a farewell to Mr. A. E. Stone, formerly headmaster of the Tawhiti school, and Mrs. Stone on Wednesday night Mr. G. Dick, chairman of the school committee, said that before Mr. Stone came to Tawhiti three and a-half years ago the school had good examination results. These were maintained and even exceeded through the high standard of efficiency set by Mr. Stone. He also took an interest in outside activities as was shown by the school having won the Dixon Banner twice. The Boys and Girls’ Chibs’ Association had asked their appreciation of Mr. Stone’s services to be Finally Mr. Dick said the committee received every assistance from the headmaster. Mr. J. Smith, chairman of the school band committee, and Mr. G. Brown, for the ex-pupils association, added their tributes. Mr. M. F. Purser, president of the South Taranaki Primary Sports Association, said Mr. Stone was undoubtedly a very efficient man. The winning of the Dixon Banner twice was a fine performance. Apart from coaching his own ’school Mr. Stone gave the association great assistance. . Presentations of a rug, salad bowl and a service were made to Mr. and Mis. Stone. He regretted leaving the school but owing to the system* he had to do so to gain promotion. There was a fine body of youngsters at the school and he did not take much credit for the Dixon Banner successes. The children were all good sports and showed fine team spirit. Most of the credit for the formation of the band was due to Messrs. Smith, R. George and H. C. A. Fox and Miss Rogers.
