HAWERA SCOTTISH PICNIC. PROGRAMME of sports events. The annual picnic of the Hawera Septtish Society was held at Te Nguta Park, on Wednesday, when about 200 members and friends spent a pleasant day at the picturesque and historic spot. In past years the society has favoured one of the beaches as the location of its gathering, but this year a change was made and the choice was a happy ope. The pretty bush, the tennis courts, the shady places under the trees, the grass for sports and the bright flower gardens provided a variety of attractions that pleased all tastes. Members of the Hawera Highland Band, Pipers Bruce Henson, A. Wards, I. J. Campbell, D. Campbell and G.Reid, played a number of selections., A programme of competitive eventswas held under the supervision of Chief D. and Past-Chief J. E. The comical antics of Sydney Howard as the Yorkshireman who journeys up to London with his lady love to view the celebrated Cup Final is positively uproariOUS. “Mayfair Nights,” the British production produced at the Warner Bros, studios at Teddington, near London, is to be presented at to-morrow’s matinee and for a season of two nights at the Opera House. It is the first Warner Bros. English produced film to be released in this country. “Mayfair Nights:” has been produced on an elaborate scale, with I?o--bel Elsom, the famous English actress, heading a large cast that includes Ivor Barnard, Margot Grahame, D. A. ClarkeSmith, Moira Lynd, Edgar Norfolk, Walter Patch and Margart Darner, all of whom are leading figures on the London stage. Roland Pertwee and Irving Asher are the authors of the story, which deals with “a mother’s fight against the law in order to give her two daughters a chance in the world.” It covers a period of 20 years, and presents a hitherto little-shown view of English life in town and country, including the night club life of London.
