By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright-
Rec. 11.45 p.m. London, Jan. 18. The Shipping World in pointing out that “as a result of our being off the gold standard the Treasury will receive an additional £1,000,000 in interest on Britain’s sshares in the Suez Canal,” suggests that the Government should utilise this to assist shipowners, either by financing a scheme for scrapping obsolete steamers or helping British tonnage in competition with foreign Stateaided vessels.
