The results were:— CUTHBERT SHIELD.
In an accompanying report presented to the Taranaki Education Board yesterday the senior instructor in agriculture, Mr. Duncan Mackay, stated that for some years the top schools in competition for the shields had been, so difficult to separate that some. change in the method of award was thought necessary. That was largely due to the schools which had won still remaining in competition with those schools progressing towaras the same , high plane. The . purpose of the shields was to stimulate agriculture instruction along with improvement to environment. Once a school had been judged a winner the purpose of the shield so far as that school was concerned, at least for the time being, had been served and it remained in the competition merely to complicate the judging. It was proposed to place winning schools on an honours list .for a period of three years succeeding their win; further extension being at the discretion of the judges. The system would, it hoped, obviate much unnecessary assessment of schools very much on the same plane. Mr. Mackay recommended that the honours list at present be:— Cuthbert Shield: Ohura D.H. School (1929), Waitara school (1930), Okaiawa school (1931). . Tisch Sheild: Kiore school (1929), W al “ taanga school, Makaka school (1930), Opua school (1931). > . The maiiual and technical committee recommended that the institution of the honours list as suggested be approved, and the recommendation was adopted by the board.
