VALUABLE WORK AT OKATO
SCHOOL COMMITTEE PRAISED. VISIT BY BOARD CHAIRMAN. The. valuable, work of a permanent nature at the Okato school came in for eulogistic comment at the meeting of the Taranaki Education Board yesterday when the chairman (Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P.) reporting on a visit to the school, complimented the committee, the teachers and all concerned. He remarked that the native bush that had been conserved at the rear of the school and the wise discretion in the choice, of ornamental trees lent a charm to the school surroundings and when the full scheme of improvements was complete the school would be classed among the most attractive in Taranaki. Mr. Smith reported that he had met Messrs. Cavey and Hill (chairman and secretary of the committee) in regard to their application for a special grant to lay a strip of concrete 50ft by 13ft at the rear of the old school. In view of the amount of work done by the committee at its own cost as well as its offer to provide the shingle and labour, lie recommended that the board provide up to one ton of cement delivered at the school.
