AUCKLAND GIRL ATTACKED
SEVERE INJURIES TO HEAD.
ESCAPE OF ASSAILANTS.
Auckland, Jan. 3.
A young girl of .16 was the victim of a brutal assault in Armadale Road, Remuera, shortly after 10 o’clock on Sundajr evening. It is thought that her assailants were two young men, but both-escaped before, those who hear the girl’s, cries • reached the scene. . The girl, who is a resident of Armadale Road, was returning to her home after a walk when the two men evidently ?P" ... proached her from behind. Both apparently attacked the girl, striking her about the head. The girl called for -help, her cries were heard by several pepp e near by, who did not, however, realise immediately what was taking place. . From where she was originally, assaulted, the girl was dragged, some .distance along the road, although she ppt up. a determined reJistpnce. Eventually, three other young men in the vicinity answered her calls for help. The assailants made off in the direction of EUershe without being seen by the.rescuers, who devoted themselves to assisting/the girl to a house. . The attackers / were 'not pursued. , The victim of the assault received severe injuries. Her hat and coat were stained by blood as a result of the attack Medical attention was obtained, and several stitches in cuts on the head were necessary. In spite of the painful nature of the wounds, the girl suffered principally from shock. ■ ■ The suspected assailants disappeared from the locality without being Observed closely by anyone. They were unknown to the girl, it is stated. Inquiries in the district were made until late last evening by Detective-Sergeant McHugh and Detective Mahood. ’
