HOLIDAYS AT OPUNAKE
CELEBRATIONS IN STREET. Opunake celebrated the New Year in a very cheerful spirit. A record crowd assembled in the main street before midnight, singing, dancing and sounding noisy instruments. At midnight the band, orchestra and multitudinous voices were raised joyfully to herald the New Year. . On Sunday the beach was patronised by the largest crowd this season. The Surf Club on Monday held a second gala day. There was a large attendance of visitors and over 100 cars were parked on the beach. A programme of events for children was provided and drew a large number of competitors. The gala was considerably improved by the Federal Band’s musical programme. The recreation ground parking place for visiting motorists catered for an increased number during the holidays, '
