Larry Fay, one of the city's most notorious criminals and “racketeers,” was shot dead to-night following an argument with one of his employees at a mid-town cabaret over a reduction in Wages, Fay reputedly made a fortune by illegally organising milk distributors, taxi chauffeurs and others into “rackets.” He had a record of 44 arrests and 37 convictions, although mostly for minor offences. According to other employees F<py recently decided to relieve unemployment by incorporating a "share the work movement” at hjs cabaret. He reduced the doorman’s working hours and cut his wages 40 per cent., to which the doorman objected and started an argument which resulted in the shooting. For years Fay lived in constant fear of assassination at the hands of underworld enemies. He usually wore a bul-let-proof vest and rode in an armoured automobile.
