MATA NOTES

The farmers in the district have been' taking full advantage of the fine weather to harvest ensilage and hay. Some very heavy crops have been saved. Stacks are seen everywhere. The Mangawhero Road has been tarred right through and is a great improvement. Visitors to Rotokare Lake will appreciate the improvement as the road was very rough last year. The lake was very popular with week-end picnickers last summer. The motor-boat was out lost Sunday. The scenery round the lake is very beautiful, the bush going right down to the water’s edge, with the hills In the background. After the break-up of school our local school teacher, Miss Murdock, left to spend six weeks’ holiday with her relatives at Plimmerton Beach. Miss T. Trolove has returned home from a lengthy stay in the Nelson district. Mr. A. Kingan has returned from Stratford Hospital after an operation for appendicitis. Miss Edna Laird has returned from Wanganui. Mrs. C. Slater, who has been ill, is improving. 1
