DEATH OF MR. T. D. SULLIVAN

The death occurred at Stratford yesterday, at the age of 77, of Mr. T. D. Sullivan, a resident of the town for many years and universally popular and respected by all who knew him. Bom at Mitchell’s Town, County Cork, Ireland, in 1855, Mr. Sullivan came to New Zealand by the City of Auckland in 1879. The vessel was wrecked on the Otaki Beach', the passengers being rescued by the Maoris, who fed and sheltered them and built fires to dry their clothing. Subsequently half of the passengers were taken to Wellington and the remainder to Auckland, Mr. Sullivan going with the latter party. Settling in the Waipawa district, He remained there for a fexy years, subsequently removing to Dannevirke, where most of his family were born. Mr. Sullivan was borough foreman at Dannevirke and about 20 years ago came to Stratford in a similar capacity. He retired a few years ago. He was a popular member of the Egmont Club, where he was a frequent visitor, and his recent absence from the club was a subject of general comment.

Mr. Sullivan leaves a widow, five sons and two daughters. The sons are Messrs William, J. J., M. T. and T. Sullivan, of Stratford, and Mr. D. Sullivan, of Wellington. The daughters are Mrs. G. Hart, New Plymouth, and Miss Sullivan, of Stratford.
