THE WRONG JAM.

Pete heard mummy say that the wind was so Bad in the night she had to get up and jam the windows because they rattled so. ' ' ; . ' Pete ran upstairs to see what jam mummy had used; strawberry, or raspberry, or plum. But he found the windows wide open and not the tiniest scrap of jam on any of them. Of course, thought Pete, Jane must have washed it off, or she could not have opened the windows.

That night Pete simply could not sleep. It Wes' so windy. . Rattle, bang! Rattle, bang! went his window. Suddenly Peter remembered the jam. So he crept out of bed and ran downstairs. Mummy and daddy were out. Jane was in her room. Pete went to the kitchen cupboard and took a spoon from . the drawer because he knew he must have something to put the jam on with. He was back in his room in two ticks. Pete opened the pot of jam, and his
