SHARKS AT AUCKLAND
ONE CLOSE TO THE BEACH. BATHERS WARNED IN TIME. Auckland, Dec. 20. ■ Two sharks cruising leisurely a short distance from the foreshore at Stanley Bay on Saturday morning were unwelcome visitors to a popular bathing beach. They were first seen on the Stanley Point side of the jetty. A little later one of them, about 7ft in length, made its way toward the wharf, near which there were many bathers, including several children. The alarm was - given by a woman who noticed the .shark as it moved toward the pier. The swimmers hurriedly left the water, some of them running down the wharf to watch the ugly monster as it swam slowly in the shade of the wharf less than 40 yards , from the S The beach was thronged yesterday,- although it -was noticeable that most of the bathers remained within comfortable distance of land.
