SWIMMING CLUB EVENING
PRESENTATION TO MR. R. V. KAY.
The weekly club night of the Stratford Swimming Club was held at the baths last night. Advantage was taken of the occasion to farewell the president, Mr. R. V. Kay, who is leaving shortly to reside at Wellington. As a token of appreciation of what he had done for the club, Mr. Kay was presented with a fountain pen and pencil set. In making the presentation Mr. J. Henderson said it was a pleasant and yet unpleasant duty he had to perform. Mr. Kay had been president of the club for three years and they all knew of the good work he had done. “I have been 12J years in Stratford and it is like rooting up an old tree,” said Mr. Kay in reply. STRATFORD A. AND P. EXECUTIVE. LAST MEETING OF YEAR. The last executive meeting for the year of the Stratford A. and P. Association was held on Tuesday night, Mr. A. David presiding. The meeting expressed . condolence with Mrs. E. Marfell because of the death of her husband, who was always a loyal and helpful as well as being one of the oldest members. The secretary gave a financial report regarding the show. It was shown that 250 members who attended the show had not paid their subscriptions. Mr. R. V. Kay, hon. solicitor, wrote that he was leaving shortly for Wellington and it would be necessary to elect a, new treasurer. r ■■ ADVERTISERS’ ANNOUNCEMENTS. The. programme for the Caledonian sports at Stratford on January 26 has been completed and the work of organising the meeting is proceeding apace. The Stratford Motor Sports Club will hold a meeting at Mangatoki on Boxing Day and a programme of events satisfying to both competitor and spectator is assured. Races for both amateurs and: professionals are to be run, the jap record (open) will also be open for competition, the winner to hold the clip until a new record is set. The meeting is to be held on the banked trotting track on Mr. Morgan’s property, Hastings Road.
