KAPONGA TOWN BOARD
REPORTS TO MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Kaponga Town Board was held on Tuesday, when there were present Messrs. W. G. Cran (presiding), J. P. Gibson, W. Marr and H. J. Mills. Sympathy was expressed with Mr. Law in the loss of his mother, also with Mr. Law’s father, who was for many years a member of the board. Mr. Gibson said Mrs. Law was one of the pioneers whose passing would be a loss to the district. The pioneers had set a standard which the present generation was finding difficult to maintain. The electrical • engineer (Mr. A. W. Anderson) reported that both power plants ran almost faultlessly during the month, the only troubles experienced being' due to eels fouling the turbines, while the output was restricted by depleted stream flow on two days only. A total of 51,860 units was the output: of No. 2 power house, showing an increase of 5530 units on the figure for the similar month of last year while a bulk power purchase of 2640 units plus 40 k.v.a. was made at a elost of £lB ss, showing a decrease of £3l 15s by comparison with last year’s figure. The increased generation
and decreased purchase were due to th more regular stream flow following more even rainfall. Minor troubles only were met witl on the' reticulation, the only inter ruption of importance taking place dur ing the evening of November 26, w.hei the tripping of the automatic switch in terrupted the bulk supply and renderet it necessary to cut the power off th< western portion of the area until th< supply could be restored. The inter' ruption was of approximately 10 minute; duration.
lie The damage done by floods in the prea vious month to the concrete work of No. 11 dam was repaired and no further th.|trouble was anticipated. r- j The foreman (Mr. A. Melville) report-' r- ed that tarring work had been comm pleted on Eltham Road and in front of i- Fary’s premises in Manaia Road. A de:d pression on Eltham Road, near Mr. Law’s le property, which was dangerous to horse ic traffic had been filled. r- The filter tank at the head of the ’S waterworks had been cleared. The drainage system and flush tanks were
inspected and found to be in exCellent working condition. With the assistance ■ of relief works the creek through Vic- . toria Park had been cleared and widened and the work of cutting the boxthorn hedge in the- domain had; been commenced. The annual clean-up and rubbish removal has been made, three days being given to this work. It was decided that the Town Boards office would observe the following holidays: December 26, 27 and 28, January 2 and 3. 1 \
