AROUND THE VARIOUS CLUBS.

(By

“Hoop.”)

The Taranaki Croquet Council met on Friday, Captain F. L. Hartnell presiding over a full attendance of delegates. Notices of motion from the New Zealand Croquet Council , were discussed and an article ‘ dealing with the. advancement of croquet in New Zealand was read. .

The date of the competition for the Dr. Home rose bowl was fixed for'March 1 and 2. The schedule for the Taranaki Association’s tournament was revised. She mentioned the fact that New Plymouth, had entered a Pellew Shield team for the first time for four years and remarked

upon the fact that the team had- finished third on the list. -

The length of time'taken by players to complete a game is a subject of frequent comment, and always tc the detriment of; the B grades—generally the remark is added “that the A’s do not take so long.” Statistics compiled at a recent tournament held iti England prove conclusively that the average time occupied'playing a game in the A grade varies very slightly compared "with, the other grade. In the instance referred to, the ; A ■ grade’r ’ sojourn on the lawn averaged two hours 51 minutes; B grade two hours- 17 minutes; C grade' two hours 35 minutes. Orie hears consistently the'statement’that it is the B grade games- which take up the. lawns, but these figures tell a different tale and one not of. merit to the A grade. New Zealand Championships.

In addition to the lawns on Riddiford •Park and--Hutt Club, on which the Do--minion tournament is to be played, the . lawn of the Hautana: club will be available through the generosity of Mrs. Andrews and the members of the club. This lawn is close to headquarters and will be in excellent condition by January. ’ ’ ■■■ J, Personal Items.. . ■"
