For riding a motor-cycle that had no silencer Martin Clay was fined £4 (costs Leslie McMillan, Ngaere, pleaded guilty to riding a motor-cycle in Broadway at a speed dangerous to the public. ■ Inspector Sayers said McMillan crossed intersections at 40 miles an hour. Mrs. Long thanked the school children who had gathered the greenery, to• decorate the hall; also the , members of the division who had worked so hard .preparing for -the function. Mr. Archie Martin was master of ceremonies. ’ Mr. and Mrs. . Winthrope and Mr. Rex Winthrope left on Friday for Auckland, where they intend to reside for some time. - Miss D. Hill, head teacher of the Tututawa school, arrived on Saturday to spend part of the vacation with her sister at Ratapiko. There were four Ratapiko pupils presented at the recent examination and three gained proficiency certificates. The pair of white swans belonging to Mr. J. Wells have settled down on the; Ratapiko lake and are greatly admired by passerh-by. The swans have built, a huge nest and the mother bird is; at present sitting on five eggs.
