NEW ZEALAND PRODUCE

PUBLICITY IN LONDON. “FOLLOW-UP” ACTION URGED. London, Nov. 11. Results from exhibitions of New Zealand produce are not immediately visible, but it ®is interesting to see how such efforts plant a new idea in the minds of the public, states the New Zealand Herald correspondent. A .reflection of the publicity work on behalf of New Zealand produce at the Nbrfh London Exhibition ik seen in a leading article in the Bowes Park Weekly News. “The splendid show made by New Zealand at Alexandra Palace,” says this journal,, “caused many people to ask at the local shops for New Zealand cheese and butter, but our readers say that there was not a piece of New Zealand cheese in Wood Green! Instead, they were offered Canadian and other products, vaguely stated to be ‘Empire.’ The same difficulty arises with regard to tea. No shopkeeper knows what part of the world the popular packet teas come from, although it appears that blends •of Empire teas suit the British housewife best. “It would not be . too much to ask the Empire Marketing Board to establish a depot in every town, in which those who are-determined to give Empire foodstuff a voluntary preference inay ascertain the nature of the goods, and be sure. that what they actally get is not a-blend of foreign foods. Otherwise, it seems that the new spirit will evaporate, because it will be felt that the chase is in vain. “To be offered ‘Canadian’ when one asks for ‘New Zealand’ is a definite check, and indicates that much expensive tuition has been lost. The local shopkeepers would only be too willing to co-operate in a scheme to give the great British public genuine colonial food, and a vast new trade could be built up in a. very short time, which would go far to remedy the unemployment .problem, because of its many ramifications. For the motaent, it seeins that New Zealand is the only Dominion pushing and patriotic enough to bid for North London goodwill, and that enterprise deserves encouragement, and should be an example to . others.” ■ ■
