FITZRQY QUEEN CARNIVAL
CROWNING OF SUCCESSFUL QUEEN. A queen carnival which has been conducted in Fitzroy to assist the funds of the Fitzroy Methodist Sunday school was brought to a conclusion last night when tlie results of the contest were made known and the queen was crowned. There was a large attendance at the Fitzroy Methodist hall presided over by the Rev. R. B. Gosnell. The evening was begun with a concert programme, the items of which were contributed by the Vogeltown Anglican Sunday school under the direction of Miss Brown, Miss Ruebe and Mr. B. Roberts. A short address was given by the Mayor of New Plymouth, Mr. H. V. S. Griffiths. The results of the queen carnival were declared after the concert, Miss Ruby Bint; the northern queen,- being the winner. The southern queen was Miss Joan Fredric. The queen was forthwith crowned by the Mayoress, who made an appropriate speech. The chair in which the queen sat. for the crowning ceremony was of English oak and nearly 300 years old. It is owned by a resident of New Plymouth. Supper was provided foi' the visitors and thanks were expressed to all who assisted with the carnival. . The proceeds amounted to nearly £lB,
