Henry, the Omoana. and Moeroa schools will, be constituted full-time schools from February 1933. / • The Inglewood School Committee is to be advised'that'pending consideration of the question, of establishing : a district high' school the .committee’s.' application for a new school will be held over. Pascoe, reported that the attendance at the 22 schools visited was good,, and monthly returns showed very little irregularity. ; There was very little sickness in the ■'? schools at present. One summons was issued against a parent for not having his boy on the register of ■ any school . and the case was adjourned to, give the parent opportunity to send the child back. The child joined up with a school on December 1. Repairs were, attended to .at Puniho, Lincoln, Oeo, -Tokaora, Waiongona, Norfolk, Koru, • Pihama, Mangatoki, Tuna and York. ' MANUAL SUPERVISION.

Mr. . D. Mackay, manual supervisor, reported that woodwork in all centres proceeded steadily and satisfactorily throughout the month. The pupils were • keen to have all models completed .by the end of the school year and several pupils were finding extra time to this end.' Tn all but a very few cases the instructors were able to furnish satisfactory reports on the year’s work of the proficiency candidates. ■ Attendance, and conduct of the pupils, were satisfactory. . '/sin cookery .girls were engaged; during the I month in practice in the designing, preparation and ’ serving ot complete meals and sound practical cookery work ( was carried out. As part of their lesson the Inglewood'girls visited a bakery with their instructress and were shown large scale methods. /;'./.■' /'Conveyance work was satisfactorily maintained. Interesting exhibitions *of

1; work /were held- at the New-Plymouth . centre and at Opuriake a most success- . - ful garden party and exhibition of work, in which’the secondary staff and the instructional staff co-operated, realised '/■ £lO. The Ohura woodwork centre also ' combined with the school on people’s 'day.- Three. delegates from the, Mangafoki W.DF.U. visited the Eltham ventre. ' //The senior instructor in agriculture, Mr. D.,Mackay, reported that in primary schools instructors were mostly engaged during the - month at, the finalising of the home extension work. Such schools as ' were visited .in the ordinary course showed good progress with the outdoor experimental work arid-grounds improvement, those worthy of particular mention being Stratford,. Eltham, Mokau, Mahoeniii, Pungarehu. and Urenui. ..In Mr. Dill-Macky’s; introduction, the pig-rearing ’ competition, very satisfactory results obtained. ■ About. 48. pigs were judged by. Mr. W. B. Grant: and to the rearers of the majority of these commendatory remarks were made by him. Some very useful information was gleaned for future work/on these lines and it ; was probable that the interesting demonstration done by, Mr. Grant to farmer and-child alike, as well as the initial success . of.. many, of the competitors, would stimulate further interest in this most instructive project. The: somewhat loose, organisation; was considered necessary for this, the inaugural year. . In Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs the Tainui clubs.finalised their calf and lamb gearing competition with , the championship judging, at /Awakino. . The stock-raising competitions, including th 3. yearling class, were most satisfactory numerically as well as; in quality. The executive this year introduced. - an. exhibition of school work, each, school ip the district contributing a court. This section evoked much interest, the display being well up to the standard of the winter shows. Home garden competitions were also being: judged. . . ' The architect, Mr. C. H. Moore, reported that new work was being done at Stratford and Fitzroy and repairs made at Pembroke, Waiongoria, Whareorino, " Manga toki, Radnor schools, Tuna and York residences, and at the Central ; > School caretaker’s cottage. He proposed to-do painting repairs to 16 schools and five residences in the Ohura district immediately after Christmas. It was decided on Mr. Moore’s recommendation to allow the Moturoa School Committee to spend up to £8 for material for concrete work in connection with drainage, the board to find the labour. The board also decided to connect the Westown school-to the New Plymouth borough drainage system at an estimated cost of £2O.
