NCREASE IN LAST MONTH
IMPROVEMENT IN THE BALANCE.
IMPORTS SHOW GREAT DECLINE.

The United Kingdom trade returns for November show slight increases of both imports and exports in comparison with the previous month’s figures. The improvement'in the trade balance is indicated by a decline of over £21,000,000 from last November’s imports, against a decrease of £150,000 in exports. For the 11 months of the year the imports show a decrease of £142,500,000 and the exports a decrease of £24,000,000 in comparison with the figures for the corresponding period of 1931, the 1932 figures being imports £642,575,000 and exports £332,641,000. November returns show the following declines: Imports £61,556,000, exports £31,093,000, re-exports £4,059,000. The principal decreases in imports were grain and flour £1,162,000, food and drink £2,768,000, iron and steel and manufactures thereof £2,163,000, electrical goods and apparatus £833,000, machinery £884,000, cotton yarns and manufactures £806,000, woollen yams and manufactures £1,467,000, apparel £1,332,000,. chemicals £1,115,000 and leather manufactures £1,083,000. The . principal declines in exports were iron and steel , and manufactures thereof £326,000 and machinery £471,000. The principal increases in imports were: Tobacco £568,000 and wool £358,000, and in exports cotton yarns and manufactures £272,000 and vehicles £240,000.
