TRANSPORT FACILITIES
USE OF STRATFORD RAILWAY. An assurance that facilities for the transport of racehorses will be available over the new railway through the Ohura a few days before the Taranaki Jockey Club’s Christmas race meeting has been given the club by the Railway Department head office. The savings in freight will be about 60 per cent. The freights to New Plymouth will be: From Ellerslie, £4 13s. Bd. for first horse .£3 14s. sd. for each additional horse belonging to the same owner), Takanini £4 10s. lid. (£3 11s. 5d.), Puke—kohe £4 ss. 6d., £3 7s. lid.), Frankton £3 Bs. Bd. (£2 14s. 5d.) and Te Awamutu £3 4s. (£2 10s. Bd.). The New Plymouth club has circularised owners and trainers, emphasising the saving of time and expense, and suggesting that the Taranaki circuit (New Plymouth on December 26 and 27 and Stratford on January 1 and 2) will appeal. The club in its circular offers good accommodation and attention. It mentions the. recent expenditure of £lOOO on improving the radii of the bends, the tracks being in excellent order, and the fact that “win” and “place” totalisators. will be used.
