TEACHERS’ SUPERANNUATION
DISABILITIES UNDER THE BILL.
OPTION IN CONTRIBUTIONS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Nov. 22. The disabilities that teachers would suffer if the Superannuation Bill became law was emphasised by the Educational Institute in evidence before tile select committee. The opinion was expressed that the extension of age would result in a definite decline in the efficiency of school. The passing of the Bill would stop promotions for five years and the whole service Would have to mark time for that period. The education service was different from other services, twothirds of the members being women. Thirty years’ service was as much as the conditions of their service enabled them to give if efficiency was to be maintained. v
It was pointed out that the Bill affected the option exercised with regard to contributing on the same basis as before the salary cuts were made, and it was suggested that further time should be given for making an election, and that those who made an election before the change of conditions became imminent be allowed an opportunity of revoking.
