THOUGHTS ON ALL LANDS

ADDRESSES ON INDIAN PROBLEMS. SUNRISE SERVICE YESTERDAY. Coincident with similar observances throughout the world the Roung Women’s Christian Association at Npw Plymouth yesterday commenced a week of prayer and “world fellowship,” with a sunrise service on the top of Marsland Hill at 6.30 a.m. The weather was ideal for the simple ceremony, which was attended by 32 members of the association and supporters, some of whom had walked from Fitzroy and Westown. Miss Greenwell, the secretary, gave a brief address on “Bridge Building,” and then read the message of Miss van Aschvan Wijck, the world president, who will call at New Zealand in July, 1933, on her way to the first international conference of the association to be held in China. The programme is so arranged, that the thoughts of those taking part in the gatherings may he directed each day to the problems of specified movements or countries.

The principal speaker at the assemblies will be Miss Doris Gavin, M.A., a sister of 'Archdeacon G. H. Gavin, vicar of St. Mary’s Church, New Plymouth. To-day she will be a guest at an at home to be given by Mrs. P. C. Davie. The proceedings to-morrow will be of a distinctly novel nature for New Plymouth. Following a tea for business and professional women at the Hygienic tearooms a lecture on India is to be given by Miss Gavin in conjunction with a reproduction of the 1931 Indian Round Table Conference in London. Mahatma Gandhi’s speech and those of other delegates, including the Indian Princes, will be read by the girls. Afterwards the Sino-Japanese situation will be discussed by Miss Drew, J.P. On Thursday the board of directors will hold an “at home” at which there will be an Indian festival programme and another address will be given by Miss Gavin. On Saturday night Miss Gavin will speak to members of the Girls’ Citizens Clubs,
