“HATRED OF THE EMPIRE”

SINN FEINERS’ OUTBURST

PRINCE’S VISIT RESENTED

NATIONALISTS’ OBJECTION

THE EVILS OF PARTITION

By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. London, November 7.

Following a meeting of the Nationalist members of the House of Commons of Northern Ireland, Mr. Devlin announced that the party would not participate in the opening of the new Parliament House by the Prince of Wales. The Nationalists regarded the partition of Ireland as a national evil, disastrous to six counties and injurious to 26. A Sinn Fein meeting at Dublin passed a resolution condemning the Prince of Wales’ visit to Ireland as a deliberate attempt to misrepresent Irishmen as loyal to the Empire, which they hated for its countless crimes against themselves and other victims of its greed and cruelty all over the earth. Mr. Brian O’Higgins, Sinn Fein president, said: "The Prince of Wales’ business is the boosting of the Empire. We send a call to every Nationalist body in Ireland. There is no welcome for him here.”

BRITAIN DOUBLES TARIFFS

CONSTERNATION IN IRELAND

WILL BE BLACK CHRISTMAS

By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 7 p.m. London, Nov. 8. The Treasury announces that owing to the Free State’s failure to implement its obligations the 20 per cent, duty on live animals ha® been increased to 40 per cent, and on bacon, pork, other meat, butter, eggs, cream, poultry and game to 30 per cent. “It will be a black Christmas,” says a member of the Cosgrave Party. “Turkeys will be abundant at a few pence, but that is useless to the turkey-rais-ers.” An Irish cattle-breeder says the new tariff is received with consternation. It deals a severe blow to the turkey and chicken trade, and it is impossible to export cattle to Britain. Mr. de Valera’s bounties are now futile. Both largo and small producers are on the brink of ruin.
