FAREWELL TO PIONEER SETTLER.

Mr*. J. Vickers senr., one of the pioneer settlers of Radnor Road, has left to reside in' Stratford, having decided. to withdraw from' active management of the farm on which she has resided for the past 43 years. Mrs. Vickers has resided on the road for an. even longer period, her parents having. arrived when she was about eight years of age. Mrs. Vickers has seen the district developed from its native state, it being all standing bush when she came and Che only means of communication to the different sections being by way of a bridle track.” To mark the esteem in which she 1s held by the residents a number of ladies assembled at the old homestead on Friday afternoon to bid her “au revoir. On behalf of the residents Mrs. M. Davis, in a few well chosen words, expressed the regret felt at her departure, and asked her to accept an oak afternoon tea waggon and tray cloth as a token of their esteem and goodwill. Mra. Vickers suitably responded. Those present were: Mesdames J. Vickers eenr., M. Davis, P. Anderson, A. R. Askew, C. C. Davis, J. B. Hunt, A. W. Mapp, W. Vickers and J. G. Vickers. Misses Amer, Hunt, Piper and Vickers. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs. H. Gadsby and Mrs. 8. Reid. Mrs. Will Vickers and her two sons, who have been staying with , Mrs. John Vickers, ’ has returned home to Austrak Mrs. Kaspar is visiting her mother at New Plymouth.

TENNIS CLUB OPENING. A meet enjoyable afternoon was spent bv a large number of members of the tennis club and their friends assembled at the school on Monday to celebrate the opening of .the new season., -During the afternoon a match was played be- ' tween teams chosen by the president and vice-president, resulting in a win /•' for the latter’s team by 28 games to 21.
