' Th® decision in -favour of an unemployed relief, -workers’ disputes committee of -three made by the North Taranaki Unemployment Committee at its meeting last week was adhered to by yesterday’s meeting of the committee, though a protest was received from Mr, R; Fulton, who wrote that the Netw Plymouth unemployed disagreed with the proposed constitution of the committee. The proposed .committee was Mr. P. E. Stainton , (chairman), Mr. E J Carr (representing the Unemployment Committee) and a representative of the unemployed. The secretary, Mr. C. P- Smitii, said he reported the committee’s decision to the New Plymouth relief workers section of the General Labourers’ Union. Following the unemployed meeting he received a letter from the secretary oi the union, Mr. Fulton, which stated the men disagreed with the proposed constitution of the committee. The men considered there should he three representatives of the workers and three of the committee, with an independent chairman. They took exception to the appointment ci Mr. Stamtpn u chairman, not for any reason against him personally but because of the method of his appointment, which they considered did not make Turn a-n independent chairman. They considered the workers should have some voice m the appointment of the chairman of the disputes committee and that the chairman should be appointed the representatives of both sides. The letter stated that the men were restive, and if their ideas, as to the constitution of the disputes committee were not accepted there might be difficulty in controlling the men. ■Mr. W. G. Reid: I understood Mr. Fulton to say at one of our meetings that the men were quite satisfied- with the previous disputes committee. 1 don’t feel like changing my mind about it a<yw\ Are -we to be ruled by Mr. Fulton? v i • . Mr. J. Brown (chairman): lam not, *°Mr?Reid: It seems to me the Labour leaders are the chief cause of unemployment and that their job is to keep the men discontented. I think the Labour leaders are the worst enemy of the working people. Mr, J. W. Darby expressed the opinion .that one representative from each aide should be sufficient. On Mr. Reid’s motion, seconded by the chairman, it was decided to adhere to the committee’s previous decision.
