ENTERTAINMENTS

the REGENT THEATRE..

“LOVE LIES” TO-NIGHT.

Through highly humorous and unexpected contretemps in “Love Lies,” the British International picture, showingat The Regent Theatre to-night and tomorrow night and Friday night, Stanley Lupino, as Jerry, the unfortunate, is forced into giving one long string oimpersonations, both, varied, and. hilanous He impersonates Matadors—he impersonates " Picadors—not to mention toreadors, but when he has finally escaped from the bull-ring, another impersonation awaits him. His pal, Roily Rider (Jack Hobbs) on his. wedding day, is paid an unexpected visit by his uncle, who has threatened to disinherit him if he marries, and “Roily,” to avert disaster, persuades his. uncle that the beautiful Joyce is Jerry’s wife. Most men, called upon to impersonate the husband of so charming a wife as Dorothy Boyd, who plays the part ot Joyce, would not find it difficult—to say the least, but Jerry is a confirmed misogynist, and this newly married state embarrasses him even more than did ihe attentions of the bull and. in his own words he “feels like an aspirin waiting for a headache!” Finally, to extricate himself from the hopeless muddle, Jerry impersonates a fan charmer from gay Paree, and Jerry, toyin<? with a glass of champagne and patting his “unruly curls into position is a joy ; to behold. Stanley certainly proves himself to be a man of many parts. The supporting programme, which is all British, will include ‘ Land of the Shamrock” (a film depicting pretty Irish views accompanied by Irish songs rendered by a male choir),. Australian Uox news (containing beautiful glimpses of Taranaki’s • sentinel, Mount Egmont, in its winter coat), “Friendly Flies” nature study), ‘The Lame Duck” (melodramatic playlet) and Pathe British news. A matinee will be held on Friday at 2 p.m.
