NORFOLK DISTRICT NEWS

(From Our Own Correspondent). The Norfolk Tennis Club held its official opening last Thursday. In the absence of the president Mr. Miles Burgess extended a welcome to members of visiting clubs and friends and declared the courts officially opened for the year. Afternoon tea was served by the lady members of the club.

Members of the Norfolk Institute were guests of the Tariki Institute on Monday night forthe Hallowe’en evening. A number of the institute members motored to Ngaere on Friday to attend the half-yearly conference, Mesdames W. Brown and Porter acting as delegates for the Norfolk Institute. Mrs. Wood, who underwent a serious operation in the New Plymouth hospital, has returned to her home. The monthly meeting of the Norfolk School Committee was held last week, when many matters in relation to school affairs were dealt with. It was decided to apply to the Unemployment Committee to have a road built into the swimming pool with relief labour. Mr. H. Trimble and Mr. W. Corney are to be invited to act as supervisors to the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs. The chairman (Mr. J. Reeve) reported attending the half yearly meeting of the Inglewood dental clinic committee and placed before members the halfyearly balance-sheet of that committee, which was considered very satisfactory. It was decided to congratulate the dental clinic committee on its management of affairs.
