WAITARA FREEZING DISPUTE

SITUATION STILL UNCHANGED.

MEETING AT WELLINGTON.

The situation in the Waitara freezing works dispute is still unchanged. Th® unionists are unchanged in their stand and the management is carrying On work with “free” labour.

Mr. T. B. Ewens, president of the union, will leave for Wellington this morning on business connected with the dispute, and although he is unable to give any indication as to what will be done, he stated last night that he- hoped it would be possible to return with a settlement effected on terms considered reasonable.

Police inquiries are being made into an unauthorised visit by four young men to the firemen’s quarters in the freezing works enclosure on Saturday night. A proposal to buy stock direct from the farmer is being considered by the unionists with the idea of obtaining cheap meat. Mr. E. Reynolds has offered the use of his slaughterhouse free of charge.
