INDICTMENT OF FORGERY

WANGANUI MAN STANDS TRIAL.

CLAIM TO HAVE HAD AUTHORITY.

By Telegraph.—Press Association.

Wanganui, Last Night. Jabez William Mace Luxford is facing trial here to-day on an indictment of forgery in respect to goods supplied to the Technical College Board. The Crown alleges that when a member of that body Luxford used Ross and Glendining invoice forms without authority and signed Ross and Glendining’s name to vouchers for money received in respect to goods invoiced. There are several witnesses and the cross-examination has been lengthy. The defence seeks to prove that Luxford had the authority of the firm’s branch manager to use their name. Luxford admits he signed the vouchers and made out the invoices.

When the Court adjourned to-night the case for the defence had concluded. Counsel and his Honour will sum up to-morrow.

There is another indictment against Luxford in respect to the Wanganui Fire Board. This is based on somewhat similar evidence but if heard will come before a separate jury after the Technical College matter is disposed of.
