FIRST WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—As a member of a visiting institute at the Taranaki meeting of the Federation of Women’s Institutes, held at Ngaere yesterday, 1 was surprised to see that no mention was made of the first institute formed in Taranaki, the Inglewood one. New institutes were mentioned in the presidential address, but the institute that formed the nucleus of the present federation was ignored. I come from Hawke’s Bay, where we are proud of our Rossington Institute, and every one of our members would

have been, disappointed if Rossington, with its pioneer Work, had been forgotten. I feel sure the omission, of Inglewood’s name was merely an oversight by those in authority. —I am, etc., “VISITOR.” New Plymouth, Nov. 5.
