RECORD IN ROBBERIES

SYDNEY JEWELER’S SHARE.

EIGHT IN TWO TEARS.

Tfie old saying that the. safest place for. a wanted criminal is the neighbourhood of a police station has been illustrated in Sydney. A jeweller reports that he has suffered eight robberies in two years. Other jewellers have suffered, but not to this extent. Almost every quarter a brick or stone hq>s been used against his premises in order that a thief might snatch at his stock and run. Every city has similar experiences, but not to the extent that this man records.

The strange part of the case is that the victim’s shop is close to the central police station and the detective office. The street lighting is exceptionally good, and a night watchman is on guard. The proximity of the police, the detectives, the' night watchman and the perfect lighting have not assisted this jeweller to keep his windows unbroken and his stock untouched by criminal hands. The jewellers of Sydney all say that they are having a difficult time without any worries of this kind. There is not a great deal of jewellery being bought, but all are hopeful that from now on there will be better business. In the meantime the jeweller who has been robbed eight times in two years is fearful of another raid.
