PRIMARY SCHOOL CRICKET. The Mangatoki school cricket team visited Awatuna on Saturday to play the final fixture in the first round of the Herbert Smith Trust competition. Batting first, Mangatoki scored 55 runs. Awatuna replied with 38.. In their second venture Mangatoki made 56, which left Awatuna 74 runs to obtain, for a victory. They succeeded in putting on 27, thus leaving Mangatoki with a five-point win by 47 runs. For the winners Hammond 41 not out, Bublitz 1G and F. Muller 9 were the most successful batsmen, and for Awatuna Bridgeman 24 not out and Walker 9 scored well. Burke, Garlick, Bridgeman and Walker bowled well for Awatuna. For Mangatoki F. Muller, R. Bublitz and J. Hammond divided the honours. 1 The match was outstanding for smart fieldin<r and sharp returns to the wickets. Mr. Keighley supplied luncheon for the adult visitors and tea for the teams. Cheers were given for his hospitality. SCHOOL COMMITTEE PARLEY. The national conference of school committees’ associations has been definitely fixed for November 15 and 10. The South Taranaki delegates, Messrs. T. A. Budge and B. H. Parker, will leave for Wellington next Monday and will attend a meeting of the Wellington School Committees’ and Educational Federation’s meeting that evening by invitation, when an opportunity will be given the delegates to address the federation. Deputations from the conference to the Primo Minister and the Minister of Education have been arranged for. Mr. Masters will probably address the conference. The organising secretary, Mr. N. A. Ingram, Island Bay, anticipates the conference will be fully representative of . the school committees of the Dominion. Mangatoki tennis club ladder matches have resulted in C. Marx (challenger) defeating R. Linn 6—4, 9. Marx beating G, Pease (challenger) o—4,0 —4, and Miss J. Nicholas beating Miss P. Parker (challenger) B—6.
