OPEN VERDICT RETURNED

DEATH OF GISBORNE WOMAN. By Triefraph.-i-PresS Association. Gisborne, Last Night. An open verdict was returned by Mr. G. Harper, S.M., to-day at the adjourned inquest concerning the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Beattie, known as Mrs. Burns, who was found dead on July 8. The adjournment had been granted to obtain a further report from the Government analyst. Detective McLeod stated that he had made inquiries into the circumstances of the death and made a search of the house and surroundings for poison. He had taken possession of medicine bottles and pills which were subsequently sent to the Dominion analyst, from whom a negative report had been received. Inquiries from friends and neighbours confirmed tha evidence that Mrs. Beattie and her daughter and Burns got on well together and that she at no time gave indications of suicidal tendencies.
