Mr. H. V.'S. Griffiths, Mayor of New Plymouth, went to Wellington on business yesterday. Mrs. Mary O’Driscoll, Toowoomba, and formerly of New Plymouth, has been appointed a Justice of the Peaca in the State of Queensland. A visitor to the Dominion who arrived at Auckland on Tuesday is Canon Cyrill J. Wyche, chancellor of Grahamstown Cathedra], South Africa, and diocesan secretary and treasurer. He has been active in 1 the diocese for 41 years, 26 of which were ■ spent in the Kaffir mission field in the south-east district of the South African Union. Recently ,he was engaged by the British and Foreign Bible Society in the work of revising the Xosa version of the Bible, the language spoken by the tribes in the eastern portion of Cape Colony. He was also one of the compilers of the Anglican hymn book in that dialect. Canon Wyche intends to visit his cousin, Mrs. A. Horne, Gisborne'. He will leave Wellington for Sydney and Tasmania on November 11.
