ARRANGEMENTS IN THE EAST.

HEAO AND TANGARAKAU PLANS.

Arrangements at the eastern end for the opening of the ,Stratford‘Main Trunk railway were advanced at a meeting of representatives of interested bodies yesterday. A party comprising Messrs. Dennison (chairman of the Ohura County Council), J. F. McLenaghan (county clerk), C. Bowles (Mayor of Taumarunui), V. M. Sarah (a member of the Taumarunui Borough Council), T. Petens (Taumarunui Chamber of Commerce), G. Albertson (district engineer), R. R. Dawber (engineer on the railway line) and, A. Annand (Public Works engineer at Tangarakau) went to Tangarakau by special train yesterday to make arrangements for the ceremony at Heao.

Mr. Dennison said he had received information from the Hon. C. E. Macmillan that a special train would be available on November 7 on ihat portion of the railway under the control of the Public Works Department. He had had no notification whether that would apply to the part of the line controlled by the Railway Department. Subject to the approval of the central executive, arrangements were completed for the ceremony at Heao, over which Mr. Dennison will preside. Mr. Dennison will give an official welcome io the visitors on the arrival of the train at 10.45 a.m. Speeches will be made by the Ministers. As soon as the ceremony is over the party will leave for Tangarakau, where arrangements have been made for luncheon in the hall. Mr. N. R. Cleland (chairman of the Whangamomona County Council) will preside and a toast list will be discussed.

It is expected there will be about an hour available at Tangarakau, and the train will leave at 2 p.m. for Stratford.
