Rec. 5.5 p.m. New York, Sept. 3. J. E. Vines, W. Allison, J. Van Ryn and Gledhill will represent the United States Lawn Tennis Association in a five-month tour of Australia, New Zealand, Tasmania and Honolulu, according to an announcement to-day. The party will leave on October 5. Mesdames Allison and Van Ryn will accompany their husbands. UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIPS. BRITISH WINS ON FIRST DAY. Ree. .5.5 p.m. New York, Sept. 3. Wood (U.S.) defeated Arnold Jones (Providence, Rhode Island) 6 —o, 6—3, 6—l; Avory (Britain) defeated Frank Goeltz (Wilkesbarrc, Pennsylvania) 6 —2, 6—3) 6—2; W. Allison (U.S.) defeated Giles Vegstraten (New York) 6—4, T—s, 6—3.
