SURPRISE 'PARTY AND CARDS. About 80 friends paid a surprise visit to Mr. and Mrs. W. Marr on Tuesday night. The party was somewhat in -the nature of -a “house warming,” as the host and hostess have recently taken over their new home. The guests came from as far afield as Toko, Eltham, Kapuni and Man-gatoki and a happy evening was spent. The programme included. dancing, cards,: musical items, community singing and games. Songs were sung by Mesdames . J.. O’Donoghue and A. Lawrence and dances were given by Miss Iris Anderson, accompaniments being' played ’by Miss Shirra-s, accordion solos were played by Mr. F._ Epping and'Mr. Bob Love gave bag-pipe" selections.

The fortnightly 500 tournament under the auspices of -St. Mark’s Anglican Church social committee was held in the Parish Hall on Tuesday, when five tables took part. The'winners were Mesdames Boyle and ‘Evans, Messrs. .A. W. Anderson and A.' Burt."
