CHAMPIONSHIP- PROGRESS

The winners of the ; medal round played in conjunction with the Hawera Ladies’ Golf Club’s first championship qualifying round were Mrs. Whitehead (senior) with. 97 —1'8 —(9, and • Mrs. Fearon (junior) with 104 —23 —81. The August L.G.U. medal round was played in conjunction with the second qualifying rdund with the following results: — 1

Senior: Mrs. McAnerin 93 —18—75, Mrs.' Whitehead 93—16—75, Mrs. Thomson 87 —9 —78, Mrs. Dickie 94—14 —SO. Junior: Mrs. [Rudge 98 —23 — io, Miss J., Robb 104—27—77, Mrs. Fearon 103— 23—80, Mrs. FendaH 114—33 —81. Reductions of handicaps are: Mrs. A. Thomson one stroke to S, Mrs. McAnerin to 16, Airs. Whitehead to 17, Mrs. Rudge to 21. In the silver division ofsthe championship qualifying round Mrs. A. Thomson qualified for first place with an aggregate of 179. The first round of the championships will be played by August 23. The draw is as follows; Mrs. Thomson plays the winner of Mrs. Dickie and Mrs. Dalgetty, Miss Richardson plays Miss H. Burgess, Miss E. Burgess plays Miss Hawken, Mrs. Whitehead plays the winner of ‘ Miss Robertson and Airs. Baigent. Mrs. Rota plays Miss G. Death, Mrs. Walkley plays the winner of the above match.

In the bronze division Mrs. McAnerin ■plays Mrs. Pickett, Miss Robb plays Mrs. Gibson, Mrs. Fearon plays Miss Murray, Miss Huggins plays Mrs. Rudge. Mrs. Ward plays Mrs. McWilliam° Mrs. Hunt plays Miss Mac Diarmid, Mrs. Coney plays Miss V. Death and Miss Wills plays Mrs. FendaH. The dates chosen for the fourth annual South Taranaki ladies’ tournament are Wednesday and Thursday, August 31 and September 1. The popularity of golf is increasing every year, and judging from the keenness shown in the ordinary weekly competitions and the increased number of handicap players in the Hawera Club the committee is confident that the tournament will be even more successful than last year, when there was a record number of entries. Non-handicap players are. entitled to play in the tournament on a 36 handicap, even if they have not yet won their L.G.U. handicaps.
